Boys Varsity Track, Girls Varsity Track · Colon Torres, Jacklin Earn Medals at Gaucho Invite

On Friday the 8th, Goldwater Track & Field competed at the GCC Gaucho Invitational at Glendale Community College alongside 18 other schools from across the valley.  The top performers were Misael Colon Torres in the pole vault, John Jacklin in the 3200m, Veronika Colon Torres in the 800m, and Sioanex Martinez Orozco in the discus.  These four athletes earned top 5 finishes in their respective events, and Misael and Jacklin won medals.

Misael Colon Torres easily cleared 11’6”, which guaranteed him a top 2 finish.  However, he was not able to clear 12’ mark unlike the other competitor, giving Misael the silver medal.

Jacklin missed a top 10 finish in the 1600m by .43 seconds and responded by finishing 3rd in the 3200m.  He finished 2nd in his heat at a time of 10:43, which was 2 seconds from the top finisher in his heat and 3 seconds from 1st place overall.

Friday was also the debut for both the boys and girls 4X400m relay teams.  The team of Misael Colon Torres, Kenny Neil, Luis Martinez Lugo, and Cody Sutaris placed 6th overall with a time of 3:43.68.  The girls’ team of Alexis LaFuente, Daniella Viner, Macey Gutierrez, and Veronika Colon Torres also placed 6th overall with a time of 4:42.50.

The team has a dual meet at Deer Valley High School with Boulder Creek and the host on Wednesday the 13th before the school leaves for spring break.
